Free Movie Night Showing of:
"Surfwise," 2007. In 1956, at the age of 35, dedicated maverick Dorian “Doc” Paskowitz, Stanford M.D., quits his job as Hawaii public health officer to lead a life of surfing. After introducing surfing in Israel, Doc marries Juliette and together they have 8 boys and a girl, raising all of them home schooled in a frugally holistic life style on a health diet. Cramped into a 24 ft camper, traveling “from one wave to another,” they become surfing’s “first family.” Doc: “I just wanted my family around me, surfing.” In 1974 they open a surf camp - “We live clean, Eat clean, and Surf clean,” to supplement Doc’s occasional earnings in medicine. Son, Isaiah: “Going on the water just revitalizes you, it cleanses you, it makes you feel very grounded and just returned to the earth...Everyone’s trying to get that moment of spiritual perfection. We had it.” Son, David: “He wanted us to be unchained...That little wave has the basic nature and wisdom of the universe, and then you catch it.” A live documentary with surfing footage, much of it in Waikiki, the film wins universal critical acclaim.
